As of August 2017, the Center for Vocation and Career no longer hosts residential job postings. 

After working with our Risk Management Team, it was determined that we could not adequately protect our students if we continued to post positions that required work in someone’s home.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as the protection of our students in our highest priority.

Center for Vocation and Career believes that students should be given a reasonable period of time to consider an offer for a job or internship before being required to accept or decline. We agree with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) guidelines: 

Experience shows the best employment decisions for both students and employers are those that are made without pressure and with the greatest amount of information. Students given sufficient time to attend career fairs, participate in on-campus interviews, and/or complete the interviewing in which they are currently engaged are more likely to make good long-term employment decisions and may be less likely to renege on job acceptances. 

We ask that employers adhere to the following job offer deadlines:

• Summer Interns: Students who are offered a full-time position after completing an internship have until November 1 or two weeks after receiving the written offer, whichever is later, to accept or decline
• Fall Recruiting: Students who are offered a full-time position or internship have until November 1 or two weeks after receiving the written offer, whichever is later, to accept or decline
• Spring/Summer Recruiting: Students who are offered a full-time position or internship offer have until two weeks after receiving the written offer to accept or decline 

We encourage employers to avoid any practices that may improperly influence or hasten a student’s decision, including the use of bonuses or other variance in compensation, placement within the organization, or exploding offers

It typically takes 3 business days to process and approve pending employer requests. Employers are approved quickest if their profile is filled out completely and professionally, their contact information is valid, and it is clear from their website that they offer full-time jobs requiring college degrees or career-oriented  internships.

After your employer account has been approved, you will be able to post your job for Wheaton students.

Before posting an internship, please review the U.S. Department of Labor's Fact Sheet on intern compensation. This fact sheet provides general information to help determine whether interns must be paid the minimum wage and overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act for the services that they provide to "for-profit" private sector employers.

Tip: Help students see how your organization matches these attributes by following these simple steps:

• Complete your Handshake profile. Add a banner, logo, and compelling company description at a minimum.
• Carefully craft all job and internship descriptions that are posted to Handshake.  The goal is to motivate students to apply to your opportunity. Create your descriptions such that students will be able to imagine themselves in the role. Make use of the ability to attach documents to Handshake.
