Incoming students were greeted with a schedule full of activities and an enthusiastic Orientation Committee ready to help them immerse into Wheaton life.
This August, Wheaton welcomed 670 students from 46 different countries. Starting on Thursday, the dorms were buzzing with activity as students began moving in. As parents had a chance to socialize, students hung out at the Residence Hall Floor Socials.
With opportunities like corporate worship in Edman chapel, outdoor game and rec time, the Beamer Bash and a residence hall social, students had many occasions to get to know the folks they’ll be doing life with for the year. And Dr. Ryken helped serve more than 1,500 pieces of pizza to students on Blanchard lawn.
We Serve
On Monday, approximately 700 freshmen and sophomores participated in Wheaton College’s fifth annual ChicaGo Community Service Day. 14 buses went to 26 sites throughout Chicago where the “Go Groups” registered voters, cleaned up parks and gardens, assisted local churches and schools with maintenance and outreach and much more. They wrapped up the day with New Student Worship together, thanking God for the opportunity to serve in their new community.
We Worship
After being able to have corporate worship as new students (both freshmen and transfers) on Friday, Tuesday night wrapped up orientation with All-School Communion, the first time the entire campus comes together to worship and dedicate the new year to God.
We Learn
During orientation, freshmen and their families attended an opening program with administrators, staff, faculty and the Orientation Committee. The weekend also featured a session on “Your Calling as a Student” and department fairs which gave them a chance to meet with faculty and administrators.
After one final day to take care of advisor appointments, registration changes and last-minute trips to Target, on Wednesday, it was off to class.
