The Voyageur program is an extended canoeing expedition in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota for rising 11-12 graders during the summer. The program has grown from one expedition in 2017 to four in 2018. Why do we love offering this program? Today’s generation needs it now more than ever. As youth and young adults are increasingly turning to social media to form communities, it’s critical they find authentic and true community in face-to-face contexts.
The Voyageur trip seeks to foster an authentic and small knit community through challenge and adventure, encouraging campers to extend Christlike kindness and care in a unique setting. The purposeful challenge of an extended trip in the wilderness develops leadership skills, spiritual awareness, emotional resilience, and compassion. One Voyageur student from the ‘17 trip described the important and life changing deep connections with others they made while on the trip and how their cabinmates “showed me love when I had done literally nothing to deserve it, and showed me what it means to experience the love of God despite anything I did or ever could do to deserve it through the close-knit family we formed”.
It’s an incredible, life-changing, transformational experience in an extraordinary setting and the program is filling up fast (that’s why we’re offering four expeditions!). Want to know more? Check out the program description!
