HoneyRock’s first-ever Family Camp (October 9-12) was a smashing success. Between perfect weather and the Northwoods’ fall colors, the small group of families was able to truly relax in God’s creation. One mother said, “This weekend at Family Camp was the perfect time to take a break—tap out—breathe, slow down, and re-center our values and family conversations. God met us here—we were spent and weary when we arrived and we left filled top-full of God's peace, love, and assurance."
The weekend brought new friends and relaxation. Kids enjoyed pony rides, rock climbing, canoeing, and archery, while their parents enjoyed the time away (especially not having to cook), the parenting seminar, and God’s creation.
Long-time HoneyRockers Bill and Nancy Long were the speakers for the parent seminar on Saturday night. They spoke from their experience as parents and grandparents about how being a parent is part of God’s plan.
"[The] seminar was a time to be encouraged as a parent—to be reminded that this is God's plan, despite my personal meddling!” one mother said. “And I am the perfect mom for my children and [they] are the perfect children for me. Though we are imperfect, we are not broken—God will use our characteristics, personalities, strengths and weaknesses. We need to trust in God."
The weekend was a time of encouragement for all ages:

"It was 'a place apart' for a few days... canoeing, hiking, stargazing, fellowshipping, having fun in a beautiful setting with fall colors and awesome weather!" -Alison, parent

"We really got to reconnect with each other, but also to connect with other families that face many of the same struggles we do." -Melissa, parent
HoneyRock is excited for a wonderful beginning to what will be many years of Family Camp. Next year’s camp will smooth out minor details, but continue to be a time for families to have free time together away from their hectic lives.
