Food Recipes Traditions
A normal lunch preparation turned into a learning experience for HoneyRock’s Vanguards: they helped prepare pizza for lunch on one of their work days, guided by Dell Ledbetter, HoneyRock’s Hospitality Manager.
Our kitchens have prepared this meal many times for campers, students and staff. Like many of our meals, we make everything from scratch. Using fresh ingredients is important at HoneyRock and so we invest the extra effort into making the pizza dough first and then using our dough to construct amazing, delicious pizzas.
HoneyRock’s pizza dough recipe is simple and taught the students that making food from scratch isn’t all that difficult. There’s a little more to it than ordering pizza for delivery, but the taste is well worth the effort!
We never make just two pizzas as you can see here, but we adjusted the recipe so that you won’t have to have pizzas for 40 people! Here are the directions for two pizza crusts:
Ingredients:
• 1 2/3 cup warm water
• 5 teaspoons yeast
• 1 2/3 teaspoons sugar
• 1 2/3 teaspoons salt
• 3 tablespoons & 1 teaspoon oil
• 4 cups & 1 tablespoon of flour
• your choice of the following spices: black pepper, garlic, onion flakes, paprika, basil, oregano, chili powder
• Cornmeal and olive oil
Preparation:
1. Mix all the ingredients together in a mixer, adding flour until the dough is smooth and elastic.
2. Turn it onto a floured board, cover, and allow it to rise until doubled in size.
3. Divide in half to make two pizza crusts.
4. Grease and sprinkle round pizza pans with cornmeal.
5. Roll out the portions of dough into circles and place on pans.
6. Brush the edges with olive oil.
7. Top with pizza sauce, cheese, and other toppings as desired. We love to add fresh veggies, but of course a crowd favorite is cheese, cheese and more cheese!
8. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or until brown.
9. Mangia!
