If you are interested in applying for a GUP program this summer, you can apply at Wheaton's goglobal site >>. When you get to this site, click on ministry and co-curricular tab, and scroll down to Youth Hostel Ministry. Sign in with your network username and campus network password.
Please follow the site's instructions for online submission. Applications will only be available online. Make sure to use Firefox or Google Chrome as your web browser. When you apply, please select TBD as your location. Also, do not choose dates at the time of application. We will update this information on your behalf post selection. (We will be accepting applications past this date IF interview spaces are available. Spaces are filled on a first-come-first-served basis)

Current Opportunities for the Summer of 2019:
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Work with the Shelter Christian Youth Hostels who desire to create an “atmosphere in our hostels to be friendly and open, where the vast majority of our guests are not Christians and everyone is welcome, whatever they believe. For those interested, we provide some activities in a separate room of the building, such as discussions about the Bible or a movie. Other activities may take place in the hostel cafe. This could be a game or movie evening, or a special presentation from our team during a meal, etc.” Students will spend their summer leading Bible studies, serving in the hostel cafe, and sharing the Gospel with travelers.
Bergen, Norway
Work with Intermission Christian Youth Hostel where they “offer (travelers) the unique combination of the Cheapest bed in Bergen, and Cozy, ‘homey’ atmosphere close to town! But it doesn't stop there. Every Monday and Thursday nights, we serve you free waffles in the evening. Every evening you get coffee and biscuits for free. And for your practical life on travel; showers, washing-machine, bed-sheets and kitchen are free for your disposal.” Here, students will run the hostel including check-in, cleaning, Bible studies, train pick-up etc. In Bergen you will live in community with travelers, sharing the Gospel with them in both word and deed. This hostel is only open during the summer and the money raised running it goes to fund year round Christian youth programs in Bergen.
Mexico City, Mexico
Warm Heart Community is a safe place to explore more of who you are and who you want to become. At this hostel, guests enjoy doing things together like learning languages, doing art, watching films, playing board games, doing yoga, cooking, and spending time with Mexican nationals and volunteers from around the world.
The Warm Heart hosts love to inspire people to use their abilities to serve others. They host events geared towards raising awareness about social issues and helping people explore opportunities to walk alongside those in need. They love to serve faith-based non-profits by designing websites, making videos and supporting their causes in other ways!
At this hostel, you will live in community with fellow travelers, help run the cafe, check-in and give tours to visitors, assist in cleaning, and plan special events.
Santiago de Compostela, Spain
The Pilgrim House Welcome Center is a place for pilgrims to find respite from their walk and take time to reflect on their Camino, life, and future. This center offers a safe place to explore and engage the deeper questions concerning the love and mystery of God, life, and our resilient frailty. this time of reflection is sacred and the Welcome Center's purpose is to foster space--physical, mental, and spiritual.
Students at this location will have the opportunity to walk part of the Camino with fellow pilgrims, participating in reflection of their own lives as they journey together.
Upon arrival to the Pilgrim House, they will be involved in welcoming guests, assisting in cleaning, arranging tours of the city, planning special events, and creating sacred spaces for conversations to develop with pilgrims as they reflect more deeply on the significance of their Camino experience at an internal level.
Tauranga, New Zealand
Steiger New Zealand is dedicated to reaching and discipling the Global Youth Culture for Jesus in New Zealand and Australia. They have a particular vision for local young adults and the Backpackers that travel to New Zealand. The students would be involved in all local activity in Tauranga during their stationary period which includes open mic nights, community meals, poetry slams, street interviews, and assisting in the local kiwi packing season (which many backpackers are involved in seasonally).
They would then have the opportunity to travel around New Zealand, stay in local hostels, and interact and engage in spiritual conversations with fellow travelers. Students who participate on this team need to have a great deal of independence, a sense of adventure, maturity and adaptability to new and ever-changing situations.
