Career coaches at Wheaton College are assigned to academic departments, allowing them to specialize in their work with students and build deeper connections with faculty and alumni. This strategy is part of our effort to engage with all students so that they can prepare their unique plan, develop the skills and tools necessary to achieve their plan, and be given the opportunities to implement their plan so that they are ready to build the church and benefit society worldwide.
Today a coach is a teacher, focused on preparing students for the future. They interact with students to guide them in the practical steps they will need to take to understand their skills, interests, and values. Coaches connect students with real-life opportunities to explore a wide range of careers where they can put those to work. Finally, coaches teach students about the hiring process, including telling their stories, networking, searching, and even negotiating. It is our goal to equip students for a life-time of career and vocational pursuits, giving them all the tools they will need for this first job and all those that will follow.
