An audition is required for application to the Conservatory of Music, and is used for scholarship consideration.
On-campus auditions are strongly recommended, and are required for candidates living within 350 miles of Wheaton's campus. The Audition Days below include morning auditions, a Music Fundamentals Assessment, lunch at our award-winning Andersons Common with faculty and current students, an Information Session, Portfolio Interview (composition students only), optional Concert event, and optional overnight stay with a student host.
In preparing for your audition, make sure to see the audition instructions for your instrument.

Recorded Audition Instructions
If you live beyond 350 miles and are unable to have an on-campus audition, you may submit a video recording, which should be of the best possible sound quality. It is important that you present yourself as professionally as possible; e.g. pianists and accompanists should perform using the highest quality instrument available.
To submit your video-recorded audition, please make individual videos of your audition pieces, scales, and arpeggios, and upload them to YouTube or Vimeo (or a similar video-hosting service). Send the links to us via this form. On the drop-down menu, please select “Submit video-recorded audition.” You may paste the links in the dialog box that appears or in the “Comments/Questions” box at the bottom of the form.
Repertoire requirements for recorded auditions are identical to those conducted on-campus. See the audition instructions by instrument for details. After your recorded audition is received, you will be contact to take the Music Fundamentals Assessment via proctor.
Note: Instrumentalists should play two scales and two arpeggios (four total).
Recorded Audition Deadlines
Recorded auditions must be uploaded by:
- December 1 for Early Action
- February 10 for Regular Action
- February 10 for Transfer Fall Semester for scholarship consideration
- October 15 for Spring Semester, First-years and Transfers
