New for Spring 2020
SOC 412: Immigration and Immigration Policy
Dr. Amy Reynolds
Migration is one of the most important social dynamics of our time, with international migrants numbering over 250 million. We will explore the challenges that confront those who cross borders, as well as the political/economic context shaping migration trends. We will also consider the impact of immigration and emigration on communities. We will focus attention on global policies around migration, the legal and institutional structures impacting migration, as well as those specifically within the United States. Students will be encouraged to think critically about how to engage with specific challenges presented by immigration, as well as to develop a sociological and biblical framework for engaging with the political and personal issues around migration.
