Research Opportunities

Plasma Physics: Dr. Craig investigates the physical processes underlying plasma relaxation in a large, hot, toroidally confined plasma; the so-called the Madison Symmetric Torus.

Students majoring in physics are strongly encouraged to pursue research experiences as a part of their education. The department provides both internal opportunities in research and encouragement and advisement for external opportunities. Use the menu to explore opportunities available to students as well as descriptions of research conducted by faculty and students.

Dr. Poelarends and Four Students Publish Paper

The paper entitled Electron Capture Supernovae from Close Binary Systems was published in the Astrophysical Journal in December, '17.

David Martin (Physics '15) and Dr. Darren Craig Publish Paper in Physics of Plasmas

The published study, including a summary of results of David's honor thesis research, describes simulations of velocity and magnetic field fluctuations in plasma and was done in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
