Wheaton in China 2015 traveled to cultural points of interest in both Tianjin and Beijing with one week of homestay with a local family. Language courses are taught in Chinese by native instructors from the host university.
Program Overview
The program began with an orientation week on Wheaton's campus devoted to cross-cultural orientation and training and concluded with a post-trip self-assessment and reflection project after students had returned from China. The Wheaton in China program offered courses in all levels of Chinese for students in any major. The on-campus cultural course was taught by Wheaton faculty; language courses were taught by New Century Language and Culture Center faculty members. Students participated in three types of classes weekly - whole-group class, small-group class and one-on-one conversation time. Students lived and studied on the campus of Tianjin University of Finance and Economics with one week of home-stay toward the end of the program.
The program included excursions to various cultural and historical sites in Tianjin and Beijing, allowing students to get a glimpse of both present day and historical China. Students also had the opportunity to worship in local Chinese churches and participate in service-oriented activities.
