The Director
Dr. Arielle Akines first began learning Spanish in the third grade. Currently, she has over ten years of experience teaching and tutoring Spanish at the graduate, undergraduate, and elementary school levels. Her background includes working in university language centers, working as an expert linguist researcher for Fortune 500 companies, and as a reading specialist for bilingual elementary students. She has lived in Málaga, Spain and completed her doctoral research on Afro-Latinos in Bogotá, Colombia. She was selected as a 2016 Smithsonian Museum Latino Center Fellow, to research language taxonomies and entity identification.
LRC Student Ambassador
Nohemí Pino is a freshman Bible and theological studies major who works in the Language Resource Center as a student ambassador. She plans events for students, creates content for the LRC instagram and website, and works behind the scenes to help improve the LRC. She moved to Wheaton this fall from Long Beach, California. Nohemí enjoys graphic design and video editing, as well as discovering small coffee shops, playing guitar, and watching new movies. She is currently taking Greek in the MCL Department and is excited to be able to use her skills for Biblical exegesis and interpretation, which will be useful as she feels called to work in vocational ministry at the local church.
