The following are the twelve steps that are required for enrollment in the Interdisciplinary Studies Program at Wheaton College.
STEP 1
Read and carefully consider everything in the IDS section of the Wheaton website.
STEP 2
Set up an appointment to meet with the IDS Director to discuss your plans for pursuing the IDS major.
STEP 3
Meet with a designated IDS student (arranged through the IDS office).
STEP 4
Complete the IDS application. The application can be found by following the link on the IDS webpage. The application consists of:
1) Personal questionnaire
2) Proposed Program of Study course list
3) Reflective essays (three) reviewed by a Wheaton Writing Center Consultant
4) Course completion schedule
5) Interview with IDS Director
Email the completed application to IDS@wheaton.edu for preliminary review.
STEP 5
Contact the IDS Office Coordinator to schedule an interview with the IDS Director. Complete and submit the IDS Information Release form to the Registrar's Office before your IDS interview. NOTE: The IDS Office Coordinator must have an email copy of the revised/final versions of your essays prior to your interview with the IDS Director.
STEP 6
Meet with an IDS Faculty Liaison from each of your chosen disciplines for guidance and advice on course selections. (The IDS Office Coordinator has a list of the IDS Faculty Liaisons for each discipline.) Be sure to have each IDS Faculty Liaison email (ids@wheaton.edu) their approval of your Program of Study. This step is important - your application is not considered complete UNTIL the IDS Faculty Liaisons email their approval of your POS.
STEP 7
Upon acceptance, immediately complete and submit:
1) the Declaration of Major form to your former advisor/department for transfer of information (found in the "Other IDS forms" in the application section of the IDS webpage).
2) the IDS Program of Study Agreement which you will receive from the IDS office once you are accepted.
3) the IDS Senior Project Agreement which you will receive from the IDS office once you are accepted.
STEP 8
Schedule an appointment with the IDS Director to discuss IDS Faculty Committee feedback on your application and Program of Study.
STEP 9
Enroll in Introduction to IDS (IDS 291) - ideally, it should be your first course as a major. Please note: This course is only offered during the fall semester.
STEP 10
Complete an IDS Independent Study (IDS 495) - just prior to your Senior Seminar. Submit your Project Precis at the end of your Independent Study.
STEP 11
Review and complete all courses in your approved (signed) Program of Study (POS) and Course Completion List. DO NOT deviate from this list without prior approval.
STEP 12
Enroll in the Senior Seminar (IDS 494) the spring of your final year at Wheaton. This course is a priority, so be sure to schedule it accordingly.
