What “wicked problem” did you study?
How can theater help us to understand the Odyssey?
Why IDS?
I am usually looking for ways to bring my various interests together and to find the common ground among different ways of learning and knowing. IDS is designed to help students do exactly those things.
What do you value about the IDS program at Wheaton College?
I really value the other IDS students. I was constantly amazed and fascinated by the work my fellow seniors were doing on their various projects. I also appreciate the IDS program’s ability to be a point of connection between students who wouldn't normally cross paths because they are studying different things.
What would you say to someone who is considering the IDS major?
I recommend the IDS major at Wheaton. You should definitely apply if you think it looks interesting.
What is your final project title?
The Odyssey Workshop: A Discussion of Language and Knowledge in Theater and a Proposal.
What is your final project abstract?
I outlined an idea for a workshop performance of some scenes from the Odyssey. Due to COVID-19, the workshop itself was not realized. My final project consisted of a description of and rationale for the workshop I was envisioning, as well as an account of theater as a practice that gives an idea why such a workshop would be worthwhile.
