Caring for Communities
My Wheaton College experience was one of the most formidable four years of my life. As a second-generation Korean-American coming from the suburbs of St. Louis, I struggled a lot with my ethnic identity, my Christian identity, and even where God was leading me vocationally. So at Wheaton I decided to major in sociology, seek mentorship, join a Christian community, and take some risks by doing some urban ministry internships through my sophomore and junior summer. I cannot begin to explain how each experience molded me into the man I am today. These experiences shaped how I view society and culture, how I am to approach that with a strong faith, and how that empowers me to pursue my vocational calling.
Right now, I am finishing my Masters of Divinity degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in preparation to be in pastoral ministry. It's been a journey to this exact step, but I feel incredibly equipped going into the pastoral route because my mind isn't just focused on Bible and Theology (thought that is important). My mind and heart care for communities, social and cultural ills, and the flourishing of human life. The skills of leading events and ministries on campus, doing extensive research on communities, and building relationships on Wheaton campus have prepared me to take this step and continue to be a learner at the age of 27. I am so thankful for my time at Wheaton College and can confidently say that Wheaton has prepared to truly seek Christ and his Kingdom.
