2019 Fahs Symposium Lecture - Dr. Kersten Priest

Monday, March 25th 2019 - 7:00pm, Meyer Science Center, Room 145

Poster for Respect the DirtDr. Kersten Priest, Associate Professor of Sociology from Indiana Wesleyan University will present the Annual Ivan Fahs Lecture, titled: "Respect the Dirt: Black Abolitionists & the Free Black Settlement of Weaver, Indiana." This presentation will be on the history and modern effects of Weaver, the prominent black settlement in 19th century, pre-Civil War Grant County, IN.

Can an Anthropologist Be a Theologian?

February 18th, 2019

Dr. Todd Whitmore, Catholic theologian, development worker, anthropologist, and medical practitioner, spoke on his work connecting theology and anthropology. He drew on decades of fieldwork from South Sudan/Northern Uganda and Northern Indiana, where he is currently working with those experiencing opioid addiction.

The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America

October 4, 2018

Richard Rothstein's recent book The Color of Law, was a 2017 finalist for the National Book Award for non-fiction. He gave a hopeful yet sobering lecture on how our government created and perpetuated residential segregation.
